Terrible experience.

Everything started off fine, she seemed nice at our initial interview so I decided to use her for our taxes. The taxes got done, albeit at the last minute, but they were not done correctly. She had put income to the wrong state, so amended returns had to be filed.

Then, I received a notice from the State of Illinois that I owed approximately $800 in fees. She stated that we would need to contact the state. I waited a few days to hear back from her, but then nothing. I then spent the next week calling, leaving messages, texting, and posting in her chat option. I never received a call back.

In the end, after I called the state about this, the issue was that she had not checked the box for the fact that we had not paid taxes to the state of Illinois previously. She should have known this in the process of filing taxes.

Response to the response:

1. I first contacted you in September 2023. It was not late in the Tax Season at all, it was not even tax season yet.

2. I did owe funds to the state of Illinois for late payments, but not nearly as much as the state originally stated and not what you thought I did. There is no way someone at the state told you that I did not owe anything. And I never received information on this.

3. I do share blame in not catching that you had entered a payment to the wrong state. But this is something I expect a tax professional to get correct. It is the reason I pay for a professional to do my taxes.

4. The box that needed to be checked is on the Illinois 1040 at line 33 item d. Again, this is something I expected a tax professional to know about and handle for me. It was not until I called the state and asked what was occurring that they told me about this and how to correct the error.
