I have been to this Portillo’s a few times over the last few years. The establishment is clean. Plenty of room for larger groups.

The onion rings were crisp and delicious. Chicken strips were very tender and fried just right. My husband said his Philly was good.

Now, the famous fries on the other hand. Very disappointing. Soggy and Luke warm. And they are doing something different with the strawberry shakes.
In previous years it seemed homemade. Strawberries and ice cream. This time not many strawberries and it was foamy like the fake shakes at McDonald’s. Not a fan.

Bring back the deliciousness please

I never been to a portillos that had a 1950's atmosphere. The food was fastastic as usual. The staff was friendly. It's a fantastic place to go for a hot dogs, fries, cheese dip, and the amazing chocolate cake shake.

Food was mostly mediocre at best. Decent self service to order and decent self service to pick up. Restaurant was clean, decent environment.

Ordered two big Italian beef sandwiches, burger, and the two hot dog combo.

Italian beef sandwiches were relatively dry and mostly flavorless, the soggy bun had decent flavor. Menu says a person can choose the amount of sauce on the Italian beef, we weren’t asked.

The burger patty was unseasoned, char brought an unappealing bitter taste. Our granddaughter was not interested in finishing her burger.

Hot dogs were tasty. The hot dog itself had a great flavor and the toppings and bun added the right touch to make it an enjoyable meal.

Fries tasted like they came out of a bag from Walmart or something. Fries came out hot, but were ruined by the over abundance of salt put on them by staff. Unsure why a reasonable amount wasn’t added then let salt loving customers add whatever amount they desire.

Prices were way too high, particularly considering the customer stands in line to order then migrates to the other side to stand and wait to get their order; McDonald’s/Burger King and such have better service for less cost. Counter ordering and pickup is great, when the business prices things accordingly.

I was hungry for a Chicago Dog, and this is the place to go if you are outside of Chicago. I ordered two Chicago dogs, and they were delicious. If you are unfamiliar with Portillo's, you order at the counter and then stand at the other end of the counter. They will call your number, and the rest is self-service. The atmosphere is diner-like and it is pretty loud.

I had never been to a Portillo's before but noticed one close to where I'd been shopping and also noticed that they had a drove through, so I thought I'd grab something for the drive home. The drive through has a live person, not a radio, which is a nice touch, and she was able to advise me about the shakes, so I wonder why she didn't warn me about the Italian beef.....
The first thing I learned is that this is not fast food. I was second in line and waited a full 6 minutes on the person in front of me. When they left and I got to the window, I thought my order -- an Italian beef and chocolate shake -- would be ready. Nope. Someone came out and delivered orders to three vehicles behind me, but not mine. Suddenly someone appeared at the window and, without a word, thrust a bag and a Styrofoam cup at me. I asked if there were a straw in the bag and he said yes.
With the bag dripping over me and my seat, I learned the second thing -- this is not road food. The sandwich was wrapped in two layers of paper but it still dripped juice through the bag. When I tried to unwrap it so that I could eat it, the juice got all over my hands, and made it hard to unwrap the second layer so that I could eat ilthe sandwich without everything coming apart. I pulled over and peeled the paper down about half way and proceeded to eat as i took off again. When I got to the halfway point, it was hard to unwrap further, and I don't know how much paper I ate. The sandwich was delicious, but not something I'd try to eat while driving again.
For some reason the shake was also messy, with chocolate syrup dripped down the outside of the cup. And there was no straw. Pull over again, and look for a spare straw in the console. The shake was good, but why couldn't I have a straw and why couldn't they have cleaned the cup up?
Then, when I got most of the way through the shake, something solid came through the straw. It turned out to be a sliver of blue plastic. What was it doing in my shake?

Hot dog with everything was perfect, sport peppers, everything else. Lives up to the hype.
Italian Beef with hot peppers, slightly wet (their standard?) seemed nice and juicy and didn't need any extra. I got hot peppers and love a little heat. The beef is as tender as it needs to be and full of flavor. Lives up to the hype.

I got the two hotdogs and they’re good! Love the beef that my husband got. I like the interior of this place. Oh there shake is so good!

Great service with a smile. Don't hesitate to joke around with these guys and girls! They were really nice and fun. I had a Ceasar salad and water with a Chocolate cake shake. I'm trying to be healthy, but here I can't resist the shake! Wendy had the italian beef and cheese fries. For all our food it was $33. Worth the money for the music, atmosphere, and over all great experience in the heart of the midwest.
