With the exception of whatever they decide to pay you by the mile, they are gonna give you nothing here. They dangle a sign on bonus in front of your face. That's a jedi mind trick to lure you in, then pay you later, which keeps you on board being a captured money maker. Once a month a safety bonus of 50.00 to 100.00 bucks. That tricks you into thinking they appreciate your work. When the truth is they know they wont offer you medical or dental or a 401k like most respectable companies, so they share a little bit more of the pie to you in the name of self preservation. Point blank, this place sucks. It's a good place to get verifiable experience. Or it's a good place to maintain recent experience ( some insurance companies only insure recent experience, ). Maybe good isn't the word to use. This place is just a paycheck. Because it's mostly California to Denver and back, it's not much over 2000 miles a week. If you do the math, you're really not making much more than minimum wage. I mean, a manager at Mc Donalds makes money than you at this company. And you're not home every night. You live on the road. You're culpable and liable while you take all the risk. And these people capitalize off of you and that risk. That's not trucking. That's being punked. Do you think the good folks at Norm Howard truly care about you ? I guarantee you that when the chips fall, or if and when the music stops, these civilized people will eat other. If you get a ticket, it's a lot of money wasted, and you worked for free. If there's an accident involving a fatality, you risk going to prison. You risk your money and your freedom and your life for people like this who just pay you by the mile. Is that worth it ? In the wintertime you are expected to chain up. They don't pay you to chain up. You risk your life. They say that's part of trucking. In the real world, the big companies will fire you if you chain up. If the chain law is on, a real company will pay you to shut it down. It's not worth your life being exposed on the side of an icy road chaining up. It's not worth the damage to the truck if the chain breaks or comes off. And the time it takes to chain up, drive slow, then the time to take the chains off, you have chewed up a lot of your clock for that day. Most respectable companies know this. If you wreck in adverse weather conditions, these people will fire you and move onto the next sucker ( or the insurance company won't insure you ). The larger respectable companies truly believe in safety first. Not this place. According to Norm Howard Trucking, chaining up for free is what a real trucker does. And call up the company phone number. The recording says, " Thank you for calling Norm Howard trucking, where safety comes first. " I dont know whats funnier - these people " saying " that or they actually " believing " it. For 25 plus years Cargill was their broker. Cargill got outbidded. So Cargill lost a lot of their contracts that Norm Howard depended on. So now Norm Howard is basically a TQL company. So they're grasping at straws and doing forced dispatch, even though FMCSA prohibits forced dispatching. This company is all family run, so trust nobody. Some of the employees grew up with the first owner, Norm. Most of their drivers are sketchy. You won't find any seasoned veteran drivers at this company. If you have many years of verifiable experience, there's absolutely no reason why you should work here. Unless it's just a quick brief stop, this company is for the birds. Seasoned veteran drivers get medical, dental, and a 401k to where they can retire after 10 years, then go local. If you work here for 10 years, you'll have nothing to show for it. Truthfully, in the long run, you are better off flipping a burger then you are by working here. The money isn't here. The potential legal problems are very real here. The dangers of driving in general, etc. In all aspects of life, every job is dangerous. To what degree is the question. In all aspects of life, its a calculated risk. With this company, the risk out weighs the benefit.

Lot, yard amd office are super CLEAN, TIDY, ORGANIZED. Office smells like a dream ALWAYS, you can tell its run by a woman. Owners are courteous and mindful of drivers needs, and do their best to make it a nice job. Trucks and traers are really nice, trailers have all the lights and amenities. Nice place to work!

When I started out as an OTR driver, I had to buy things/tools to assist me with my job. I needed a GPS that every driver had so I bought one in Indiana. Come to find out Google Maps was better than the GPS I bought...

Local "regular folk" owned business, over 35 years and going strong. New equipment and fair pay, and enough miles if youre willing to get them. Super nice dispatch and ownership.
