One of the worst duty station a new soldier could ever be put at. Horrible chain of command all around the installation that should be investigated , lots of drug use on base and no one on the base can do their jobs properly. Cocaine ,pills, liquor and other hard drugs are very big here on base. Suicides are a regular thing on base here also and it’s covered up all the time. This army base is the worst I’ve ever been to and it should be investigated federally . If you are a new soldier going here I am so terribly sorry for you and I hope you survive because this base will ruin your military career because this place is BAD!

Stationed there from '69-70 and loved it. Worked at Army Airfield and took pictures of the aircraft and Helicopters, including the fire bombers....WW2 B-25s and old Navy Privateers (Navy B-24s). Saw old mining camps in the county side and old dredges. Flew around Mt. McKinley, as a tourist, and saw Alaskan villages, such as Talkeetna. Always wanted to go back.

Stationed there from 82 to 86. Was a bit of a shock coming from Bragg but adjusted quickly. We loved our assignment there. Didn't leave with a new car - didn't get divorced but did leave with a new kid. The key to enjoying the interior of AK is to savor the experience. Experience the beauty and vastness the place has to offer. Prepare for the cold and dark but take it as it is and alls well. Would go back anytime.

The worst army base ever! If you live on post the females are horrible and scream nasty things at you! I was literally stalked by our neighbor she was filming my husband and I. I do not recommend this place for anyone. Also they have very racist employees that favor Hispanic people and treat caucasian people unfairly! If you are caucasian do not expect any of your deposit back and prepare to be treated unfairly!

I moved there from Savannah Georgia, in 1984-1987.....after never seeing snow to 20hours of darkness and up to -70degrees what a culture shock. military brat, went to Tanana jr high and Lathrop high school. Total blast , only problem is not enough females to even out the ratio. Only military wives and daughters, unless you hit up the local skimos.... be prepared to love the smell of whale plubber and round faces and belly.
