DHA is by far the worst of DoD’s initiatives! Yes I get it they were mandated by Congress to “fix it”… Yet creating an agency that diverts resources from patient care and opts for the most expedient and cheapest alternatives with little to no focus on patients, is a catastrophe in the making. The culture amongst those who work in the DoD’s biggest healthcare facilities and largest markets has gotten worst! The practice of medicine has given way to an unsustainable jobs program with little incentive to focus on patients. Instead the providers hide behind the insurmountable bureaucracy and cloak their lack of competence and motivation under the banner of “being conservative”… Meanwhile patients suffer and access to the network is deliberately constrained, so as to save DHA money and contain costs. At the end those who serve and their families end up losing as usual. The organization deserves negative stars!

There's no parking unless you requested 24-48hrs in advance. When I got there as a visitor trying to obtain a CAC, the guard told me there's no more walk-in ever/period for non DHHQ personnel. It would be nice they posted that somewhere. I have a sick crying baby in the car and it would be nice not to make the trip in the first place.

Difficult to access RAPIDS site. If you don't work at this location, expect to find parking outside the facility. There is no where close to do this. Once you've found a spot Hike to the entry point. Once they let you on site, Hike to the far side of the building to where it says Visitor entrance. Once inside, follow security personnel instructions. You will have to go through a metal detector, and your belongings x-rayed. Eventually, someone will show up to escort you to the RAPIDS waiting room. Once there, enjoy the wait. Wireless signal is weak and no one I asked knew the guest wifi password. I recommend pre-downloading a book or games that don't require internet connection.

EDIT: Having gone two more times since my initial review, I can say that the cellular signal in the building (at least for T-mobile) as vastly improved. Additionally if you have an appointment instead of doing a walk-in, you can email them to get a parking pass which makes it a much more convenient site.

Properly prepare for your visit and follow the procedures for getting visitor access and parking (submit your request at least 24-48 hours in advance. The earlier the better.). Things will run smoothly if you do.

It is better to take the free bus from the Pentagon to DHHQ. There is very limited parking onsite and you muct plan for a parking permit in advance.

This is a great facility, although difficult to access as a non-DHA emloyee.
