Let me start this with: I have nothing to gain from this review and all of this information is fact not my opinion of the sequence of events or interactions. I felt this review needed to be written after learning that another one of my friends who contracted with these guys had a very similar experience to mine.

Im a resident physician and needed movers to move my stuff for fellowship from New Orleans, LA to Winston Salem, NC.

Originally my wife and I contracted with North Star Van lines, which turned into Chico and the Men, and a $1000 extra after our original quote.

I should've known this was going to be a disaster from the very beginning when I was told that part of the move would need to be paid in cash. What business with any sort of reputation does anything like that but someone who is planning to do something wrong.

Anyway, Chicos team promptly told me they had 21 days to deliver my stuff based on their contract. This turned into a disaster and after many strongly worded emails and phone calls it was agreed that it would be delivered as scheduled. This didn't happen.

On top of that, All of my stuff, including my 55" tv showed up at my new house 24 hours later than the agreed on date, 10 days after all my stuff had been picked up, broken and with ants with their kingdom and eggs in some of my clothing boxes.

At the time of arrival I wasn't mad. I just assumed we would go through the process to get the tv replaced and clean the clothes with the ants...life goes on right and it was just a tv, a $1200 tv when I bought it but still just a tv.

Fast forward to the phone call to discuss the issue.

Yes, I had neglected to pay the extra non refundable $950 for total replacement insurance after the original $1500 quote had experienced a $1000 price hike and turned into final price of $2600. Which as a resident is my entire take home salary for a month.

I believed based on the way the insurance was explained to me we were covered for more than $10,000 worth of damage. Needless to say, I was wrong.

Chico was very prompt and deliberate about reminding me of this. Almost yelling ( in defiance- sorry this is my opinion) at me about my failure to opt for the extra $1000 worth of insurance, as if it would have insured my things wouldnt have shown up in the shape they did had I paid the extra $1000.

What I found out:
We were covered for $0.60/pound per item. Anyway, a 55" flat screen LG smart tv with 3D capability isn't worth anything at $0.60/pound. However, eventually during our conversation he said he would give me $40 for it. I told him he could keep his $40.

Moses/Chico never apologized for the delayed delivery or for the broken tv. Instead he blamed me for the tv being broken and had no explanation for how there could possibly be ants in the boxes with my clothes. I assured him, just as I hadn't packed a broken tv, that I hadn't packed the ants with my clothes.

Im certainly not a professional mover but Im also not an idiot. The tv was packed in a 55" TV box in styrofoam as it would come from Best buy like it did when it was purchased and delivered to my house.

Chico went on and on stating that he didn't pack the tv and didn't know if the tv was broken before it was packed and it wasn't his responsibility.

I had packed the tv the night before the movers came because it was clearly outlined in the contract all of our things other than furniture needed to be packed and ready to move or additional charges would apply.

He went on to say, yelling into the phone:
"If I had packed it, it would not have broken if it was dropped from 5 feet! We did not break your tv"

At this point I became pretty aggravated. I had given the guy all the benefit of the doubt that he would do the right thing. Ultimately he told me if I wanted to hire a lawyer I could because he knew where all the paperwork was and what had been signed.

These are the facts of my experience. I have yet to be reimbursed any amount for the tv and its been almost a month since my move.

Were there when I really needed them. Moving our daughter's furniture from NOLA to SC - supposed to be easy. Right? I had contracted with a major moving company 2 weeks before the move. They cancelled 4 days before the designated date. Chico & the Men - especially Moses & Tommy came to the rescue. I was fairly distraught & I think they felt bad for me...but I also think they would have worked any potential client in who needed them. They were there on-time for pickup & delivery was just as promised. Their prices were competitive --- truly lower than the major moving companies.....but in the same ballpark. The move was not without a few snafu's - but I've never moved furniture anywhere when there weren't a few issues. They were minor & Moses handled them quickly & fairly. I try to promote local & initially thought a major mover would be easier & faster. Nooooo.....
Chico & the Men reinforced my allegiance to the support of local businesses. They did a great job & I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I am very satisfied with the moving service provided by Chico and the Men. From Tommy, the estimator, to Moses, Joseph and Andre, they took care of every detail for me. They arrived on Friday morning as scheduled and packed everything. Moses went over all the forms with me and he even accommodated expedited delivery request for me at my new apartment. Andre and Joseph carried everything and they were extremely professional. I am now waiting for my boxes and furniture to arrive to my new home. I definitely recommend Chico and the Men, their prices are the lowest I could find and their service was excellent!

I had a small load to move from Metairie to Houston. (6 pieces of furniture and about 70 boxes.) They gave me a fair price (all three bids I received were within $50.) I picked these guys because they didn't mind a small load and were available when I needed the pickup on a holiday. The two professional who packed my furniture did an excellent job protecting my furniture. I packed the boxes but they used extra tape to strengthen the boxes and make sure everything arrived in good shape. Because the small loaded needed to go with another larger load I waited two weeks before getting my stuff. That was in the written contract but I had hoped I would get it sooner. My items were stored in an warehouse while waiting. The same two men unloaded my stuff and this time had to deal with stairs. They had hired a young man to help with the delivery. He was not a professional - enough said. All in all I would hire them again as they are incredible polite and really work hard.

small load to move from Baton Rouge to Maryland. They gave me a very good fair price. The three professional who packed my furniture did an excellent job protecting my furniture. I packed the boxes but they used extra tape to strengthen the boxes and make sure everything arrived in good shape. I would hire them again as they are incredible polite and really work hard, would recommend this movers for best pricing & safe delivery of items. Especially Both Tommy & Moses are very customer friendly & respond to the customer at all times starts from quote, pick up and delivery

Chico and The Men is one of the best moving companies I have ever dealt with in the past many moves during the last 30 years. Very reliable, excellent packing and unpacking. The team was friendly but focused. I personally highly recommend Chico and The Men to whom ever wants to move locally as well as cross country. Our move was cross country and was done timely, and effectively and without any problems. I will use their services without any hesitation in the future.

I want you to know that Chico & the Men recently moved me from Mobile, Alabama to Jacksonville, Florida. Chico worked and supervised the packing and loading in Mobile. He was very nice and helpful. They did an excellent job of packing my belongings! There was no breakage or damage to any of my things. I highly recommend Chico & the Men. I have used several "big name" moving companies when I have moved in the past, but my move with Chico & the Men was far superior to the others.

Working with Chico and the Men was a great experience for me and my mom as I was helping her move from New Orleans to Texas. Not only were we given a very thorough in-home estimate, but we were given the opportunity to revise this estimate up to the time of the move for a very reasonable rate. Also, Moses, the owner, was very good at timely communication and consistently stayed in touch with me through calls and texts. The movers were even willing to adjust times to accommodate some last minute changes in my schedule which I appreciate beyond words! Overall, my mom and I very much appreciated the human element they bring to the move process. It is obvious that he cares about people and it's not just business and making money.
