Service was terrible, waited for our server so many times ended up having to ask different servers for stuff when needed. Gave our card to the busboy because our server wouldn’t come around to drop off the check or ask if we needed anything else. Food was okay, only good part of this was the view. Will not be returning, horrible place.

A great airport for pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and even just travelers. There is a cafe, an air and space museum and places to watch airplanes. For travelers there are many amenities and a great FBO. For pilots there is a very long runway and cheap fuel.

I have to agree with the earlier post Gillespie Field offers the locals very little other than the risk of rich old men flying planes into their houses. It would seem that we average 1.5 plane crashes every two years. 99.99% of the people that have to listen to and be put at risk living near this field simply doesn't justify having it here. Why do airlines need co-pilots and private owners don't?

Update: 12.28.21 Another plane crash into a house. This place DOES NOT SERVE THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY.

All I have to say to Ed is 'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!' I live in the area and had seen planes in the air every day for years. So I did a little research and learned that Gillespie is a GREAT place to learn how to fly. You have a fantastic opportunity to learn about aviation and the location couldn't be better. You would then become aware of the regulations involved and not see it as a nuisance but rather as a blessing.

I would highly recommend Golden State Flying Club

Question, as an El Cajon resident, do the aircrafts, helicopters, etc absolutely have to strafe our roofs day and night? Yes it's an airfield but we live way over towards Main and El Cajon Blvd so they aren't on approach to land, not even close and the racket is something else. We expect to walk out and find them landing on our rooftop. Just wondering.

I go to the cafe with a co worker once in a while and it is nice to sit and watch the small planes taxi and take off, but I like planes and listening to the older folks talk about the history of their careers, you can ask just about anyone there and they have hours of story’s to tell you!

You have rich people flying motorcycles over your house all weekend and Chinese pilots being paid for my Boeing learning to fly all week long. Either way this airport is largely useless to anyone who actually lives around it. The people who run it don't care, because they are not local residents either.
