This is by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Bishop Inn should not even qualify as a 1-star property. When we arrived, the host was literally sleeping in the front office. Once we finally got his attention and checked us in, he gave us a key to a room that was absolutely disgusting.||The room looked and smelled like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. The furniture was stained and broken, the walls were filthy, and the bedding looked like it hadn’t been washed — ever. There was hair all over the bed — both animal hair and what appeared to be human hair. The shower was no better — strands of human hair were stuck to the walls and floor. The air in the room reeked of wet dog or some kind of animal — a strong, dirty smell that made it impossible to even breathe comfortably.||I showed the host the condition of the room, and he offered to move us to another one — but that one was just as bad, maybe worse. It had the same unbearable animal stench, and everything from the carpets to the walls looked filthy and neglected. The photos I’ve attached don’t even fully capture how awful the place felt and smelled in person.||After seeing all this, I didn’t even stay the night — I just left. I was completely shocked that this place is legally allowed to operate and provide service to human beings. And if you look at the photos — especially the one of the pool — that alone should tell you everything. This place is a health hazard and should be shut down immediately.

Bishop Inn should not even qualify as a 1-star property. When we arrived, the host was literally sleeping in the front office.

The room looked and smelled like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. The furniture was stained and broken, the walls were filthy, and the bedding looked like it hadn’t been washed ever. There were unidentifiable stains on the mattress and the floor, and the air smelled like wet dog or some kind of animal. The entire room reeked of something foul, like mold and pet urine combined.
After seeing all this, I didn’t even stay the night I just left. I was completely shocked that this place is legally allowed to operate and provide service to human beings. And if you look at the photos, especially the one of the pool that alone should tell you everything. This place is a health hazard and should be shut down immediately.

My husband and I canceled our reservation just as soon as we had arrived. |The booking site allowed us to cancel "the whole thing" up until an hour before check-in time; our reason to cancel is the property all around is dilapidated. |Mold growing straight out of the stucco, outside. The swimming pool is the biggest eye sore, it's empty and in such disrepair it will probably just never will again be remade and usable. Instead, it is just left to be forever covered by what looks like remnant pieces of rotted plastic.|This whole entire property just needs to be completely removed and pushed into a landfill.|It's a very sad, and depleted place.

I stayed (solo) the night on February 7th and 8th, 2025. I have always been the kinda guy who can stay anywhere as long as it is acceptably clean. By that I mean bugs and the room gets some level of cleaning. Unfortunately, even this great rate, wasn't worth it. When I checked in the hotel receptionist was dressed in clothing that didn't appear to have been changed for some time. She had food and beverage stains on her clothing that appeared to have been established some time ago and all over her top. I fully understand that a receptionist at a low budget hotel may not afford, or want to afford, the latest fashion, but I would expect anybody working with the public to at least have on clean attire - regardless. When I checked in there were no bath towels in my room and I showered and dried off with a hand towel. Not the end of the world. However, the next day when I came back to the hotel, at about 4:00 PM I notified the receptionist (wearing the same stained top), that I did not receive any bath towels and could I get one for my shower that evening. She asked why I was telling her so late in the day and I responded that I had left very early that morning and had just returned. She said she would see what she could do. I never received a bath towel and I showered and dried with the same hand towel from the day before. Again, not the end of the world. But enough for me to cancel my March, 2025 reservation as this one just isn't worth it to me. If you are trying to upset a spouse or other significant other, I would stay here. Otherwise, I would not recommend it.

We've stayed at this inn several times between my wife, mom and uncle. We booked a room and they never sent confirmation email or code, went to rebook and the room was booked up. So we naturally booked at another hotel. Then we find out we got charged for a room we never received a confirmation number for.

Will be the last time at this hotel as the front desk rep was very rude and implusive.

Absolutely horrible. Starting from the host in the reception who was unfriendly, the room smelled terrible like feet or something similar. Our toilet got clogged within minutes of being there and when we asked the manager to deal with the situation she said she could not due to medical reasons (?). She suggested we knock on one of the other guests door who had the only plunger available in the entire complex (apparently they like to share plungers). Got no answer obviously and ended up using the restrooms in restaurants and bars to get by the night. Absolutely ridiculous never again.

Positive: Location to dog park, Main Street. Negative: First room was not cleaned and prepped, manager gladly changed us to a larger downstairs room. However, the counters were dusty, toilet not cleaned thoroughly, and found a long hair in the sheets. Too tired to try my luck with a third room.

Staying at the Bishop Inn is exactly what you’d expect—because let’s be honest, you’re not expecting much. It’s a budget roadside motel about an hour from Mammoth, perfect for when you’d rather spend your cash on lift tickets than luxury.

That being said, the room was impressively clean, despite a few DIY patch jobs on the walls that suggest someone lost a fight with their demons. The bedding? Fresh and stocked with enough pillows and blankets to cradle even the most exhausted traveler. The water? Hot enough to defrost your frozen soul. The toilet? Flushed like a champion. The heater? Kept the room warm enough to keep frostbite far from my fingers and toes.

The location is solid—walking distance to enough restaurants and bars that you could easily spend a weekend bar-hopping and carbo-loading after a day of sending it on the mountain.

Overall, it’s totally fine. Would I bring a date here? Not unless she thinks “rustic charm” means questionable drywall repairs. But if you’ve got a laid-back wife, it’s a possibility. Single dudes, though? This is your undiscovered paradise.
