On a cold and rainy Saturday morning, my teenage daughter and I went out looking for donuts and something to do. We purposefully avoided Dunkin and all the other known players and set out in search of a great donut. Time was no object.

Frankly, I thought I was going someplace else. As we crossed the river from 65, I thought we were taking the most round about route possible to my intended destination.

We wound through downtown Beaver and my daughter fell in love with the town. She’s seen it before, but today she saw it with new eyes and started fantasizing about moving there. She even looked up the local school district and told me how great their marching band is.

Details about Beaver are relevant to this review because Kretchmar’s Bakery fits into the idyllic town like one of them round pegs in a round hole. It’s a charming store in a delightful town.

We puller right into an on street parking street directly in front of the bakery. We were greeted immediately by a friendly clerk. And I was surprised at how low the bill was for the number of donuts we got (it felt as if it was less than what I would pay at Giant Eagle).

And the donuts were great! Way more filling than you get from the slop they sell at Dunkin’. And fresh as a mountain breeze!

Apple turnover was fantastic and I specially loved their raspberry sour cream cookies. This was our first time coming to this place and I can’t want to try other things here.

My favorite bakery on earth! I worked here for 10 years from high school on and the Kretchmar family is the absolute best and so is the staff there. This is truly a treasure of a small town bakery. The variety of items offered daily is astounding and they are all so delicious (trust me, I actually have tried them all over the years 🤣). I highly recommend ordering decorated cakes for birthdays, showers, weddings as well as speciality cupcakes and cookies from here - the decorating team is incredible. My top items to recommend: Cinnamon bread, all the donuts, Thumbprint cookies, petitsfours, White cake with French buttercream icing, blueberry muffins, apple danish, Toasted Almond Torte, Chocolate Drops, and soo much more! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Place seems to have gone down like alot of bakeries. Idk if its the fake sugar or lack or real sugar but all the icings taste off now.. the french buttercream is so light it might as well be whipped. Not what i wanted. Got a sheet cake that was the strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla cake together. It wasnt in layers it was like a marble cake but the rasberry snd chocolate just mixed together and dominated the cake and barely any canilla or rasberry to taste..it was practically a chocolate sheet cake.. they dont do marble but they do 3 flavours!? I dont taste the difference between them and shop n save now.. shame..use to go here for a decade for cakes. I will find another, less crowed snd hard to get to bakery.

Stop by for some of the freshest and delicious treats and they have coffee as well. I have ordered custom cakes from here in the past and highly recommended it. Also so many options on display that I always end up grabbing more things than planned 😋

Best lady locks in the world! Never had anything I didn’t like. Amazing tasting cakes. Icing is so good not overly sweet! They make the cutest cookies. So many different designs especially during the holidays. They also have a coffee bar. Staff is always helpful and friendly never met a grouchy one yet. If you bring cash you even get a small discount.

First time @ Kretchmar’s put in a order for our Christmas party for Fishers Of Men and two days before they opened I contacted a person on their website and they said I can get to go containers but when I got there they told me no. Not sure why the mix up but they need to get their stuff together. Overall clean place and friendly service. What I paid for the cake you think they would accommodate. Pics4yinz ~ Roscoe
