We road the Shuttle to Devil's Postpile and Rainbow Falls on 6/21/2024. I understand that this was only the second weekend the shuttle was running this summer, but this was our exact experience. First, the sales clerk was not clear that the scenic ride combo she offered was for the gondola ride. If she had said that and clarified if we could use the gondola tickets later in the week, maybe we all would have bought them. Second, the line to get on the shuttle was very long and shuttles arrived 20-30min apart. They did not bring out like 2-3 shuttles at once and fill them up and take us all down at the same time which would have been the wisest thing to do with that many people waiting. Instead we stood and waited for over an hour to leave. We watched 3 shuttles fill and leave, before they finally put out two shuttles at once to get us down into the valley. Third, even though I said we were a group of 16 people, they put us on a completely full shuttle with standing space only. Some of the people in our group had health conditions and if given the choice, would have preferred to sit in the second bus that was right there. But we were not given that choice - there was no announcement on the bus explaining the ordeal we were about to face or how strenuous it was if we were standing. Fourth, having to stand on the way down or up this ravine is a full body work out - our members were exhausted in the ordeal especially those with health conditions like bad knees, post exertion disorder, and more. In fact, when standing on the way back up, one of our young members only age 16 fainted in the exertion and had to be laid down on the floor of the shuttle. This is not like standing on a subway or train - its way harder with all the sudden stops and turns and steep angles... and it lasts around 30 minutes. Fifth, we tried to leave the valley early around 2-3pm (long before the dreaded 7pm pile up to get out of the valley). However, our entire group did not fit on the shuttle and were split up. Now we expected our other group members to be out of the valley on the next bus like 30min behind us... but they never showed up. It took them HOURS to get out of the valley and the line for the bus grew so large that a law enforcement officer had to call and find out what was going on. There was like 5 loads of people standing at Reds Meadows and no shuttle had come. Only after that police call, were multiple shuttles sent down just to get those people out. We had no cell phone contact with our group during this time and had no idea what was going on. When we finally were all back together again there were tears and hugs all around. It was a crazy ordeal, especially in the heat, and were exhausted from difficult hikes and having to stand on shuttles. Hands down, I don't think this shuttle system is the best way to access the valley. I think Mammoth Lakes need to build a gondola down the back side of the mountain so people can ride it into and out of the valley. All of us would have gladly paid more to ride a gondola sitting down and not be stuck in the valley. Though I loved this natural area, I won't take the shuttles down into the valley again. It was not a good experience for our group.

Shuttle service is a disaster and complete mismanagement is evident in every part of the service. In the extreme heat of 90 degrees, We had to wait 2 hours in the open sun at the pickup point as there were around 200 people in front of us. Same suffering of 2 hours wait on the way back from Red's Meadow Resort. This happened on 07/06/2024. There is another 25 min for transportation in a single direction. We went there with our 8 year old kid and went through extreme suffering for this. I don't recommend this shuttle service, for which you have to spend 4Hrs in the queue.

Disappointed. The shuttle is not run effectively, poor communication on wait times and what to expect. There is little shade when standing in line, we were there on a rather hot morning waiting for about 1.5 hours. Bus ride was nauseating and hot. Bring a fan and some Dramamine.
