I am taken aback in the best way possible right now. i wish i had more to say, everything has been shocking in some ways. thought that it was a restaurant, hoping that it still is. don’t think so tho. Maybe it’s an old water power source Either way, there are three of them, and they are tall. They look like cigs. Maybe it’s an old cigarette power plant.

The 3 iconic smoke stacks represent the essence of Morro Bay. Even though the presence of this currently closed (but soon to be reopened as a wave to electricity) facility angers some visitors, it's an essential part of Morro Bay. Without the smoke stacks, Morro Bay just wouldn't be Morro Bay. Even the locals are aware of this. They take pride in their stacks and local business owners enjoy putting them on shirts. Plus, the first stack was built before the city was even voted to be a city.

I spent every summer for the first 12 years of my life in Morro with my favorite person. Such great memories - but I barely recollect the powerplant. Like others, I obviously blotted out the plant from my memories.
Seeing it now, is disheartening.
Why did the state not force it's destruction?
Years of hazardous waste left behind, forced upon such a quaint community and a miraculous ecosystem? Of course we know why.
I'm a downwinder from southern Utah.
The Earth is dying because of our unnecessary comfort choices and because of the men who reap the rewards.
Shame.

Whoever came up with a 'brilliant' idea to put this monstrousity next to such a unique natural beauty?
