Trainer Chuck Wheeler…it was one heck of a ride with him acting like a 5 year old, watching him sleep for multiple miles, and call everyone that is in his call log while I try to learn everything I can to be the best driver on the road. Company is great and good pay for coming straight out of CDL school. I promise if I had another trainer that didn’t make me feel uncomfortable and knew how to talk to someone with common sense then life would be easier.

McElroy claims to have good Christian values, and treat their workers like family and not just a number. All I can say is don’t test that theory. Not only was I just an expendable number that was discarded over a false claim from a client, that had they asked for the video could have been cleared up in moments, McElroy didn’t even have the decency to properly pay me for my time, I worked the same amount for 3 consecutive weeks, and my checks took a nose dive every week. I would highly recommend to not drink the koolaid that is the guise McElroy puts up, and find yourself a company that pays properly for the work that you do.

Do not put in a 2 week notice because you think you’ve been “ hired “ even if you make it through the first week there’s a 50/50 chance that you’ll be paired with a poor mentor that will all but get you booted out of training, they average 7 new hires a week, and only average keeping 1.

I got a lot more for my buck when my Family and I went with McElroy! They have the same values as me! Don't be afraid of the flat bed challenge!

10/2020 Update!! Im still here! Everyone has to write their own story and there is more than one side to it. Im a Driver Mentor now, loving what I do and the company that pays me to do it.....

Great company. I started with this company 5 years ago and boy there are many days that I miss working there. Yes it’s a bigger company and it may take them some time to learn your name. But my overall experience was amazing. I’m now an O/O and they gave me the experience and knowledge I needed to be successful as a flatbed driver. I really do miss working for these people. And I would go back and would if I didn’t have to be home more often. They will get you home every Friday. I just need to be home more than that.

I had a breakdown in a motorhome, an onboard computer derated my new diesel pusher to a 5 mph crawl, just across the highway from McElroy's sprawling headquarters campus, school.

After parking alongside their training course, I called the main number and was suprised when a foreman, Hollywood, picked up the phone immediately, cheerfully replying that he'd seen me limp up their driveway.

Long story short, I got to meet him, the owner's son Cody, the office staff, over the next few days. I learned about the origins of this family firm, its success. Each morning, the slow-moving parade of students in spotless rigs passed my stricken bus -- we were waiting on a part -- and the process was reversed at nightfall, all with military precision.

I tried to pick their brains without being a pest, learned a lot about equipment maintenance, highway safety.

Warmest regards to this stellar outfit. If I ever pursued an encore career (I fly Boeing 777s for a major airline) behind the wheel, this company would be my first choice.

I don’t recommend this place I wasted my time here. The trainers were nice and friendly. But very strict and don’t give you time to practice and get better on the things you need work on. I was let go on my first week of training which I think is stupid if your there for 6 weeks they should at least test you on your 3rd week to see where your at before you go out with your OTR mentor and if you fail then I would agree to be sent home but not on your first week. Also They will test you and give you lots of homework each day and if you fail on anything the Friday on your first week they will send you home. This company is on a shortage of drivers and very picky on who they hire. Which is understandable but not everyone picks up on the first week. The people were nice and friendly but the way they run the 6 weeks to the new grads is very misleading. If you just got your CDL and thinking about driving for this company just be aware and don’t quit your current job right away.
